Zomato’s Hyperpure warehouse in Hyderabad recently came under fire after a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) inspection discovered 90 mushroom packets labelled with future packaging dates.

In response, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal attributed the issue to a “manual typing error” by the vendor and clarified that these items were flagged by Zomato’s internal quality control team before reaching customers. The vendor responsible for the error has since been removed from Zomato’s network, according to Goyal.
In a post on social media platform X, Goyal expressed surprise over the media focus on these mushrooms, which amounted to only ₹7,200 worth of inventory. He emphasised that Hyperpure upholds stringent food safety practices and received an A+ rating, dismissing concerns that this error reflected larger quality issues.

The Telangana food safety authority had previously flagged other concerns, including the warehouse’s exposure to environmental factors and hygiene issues among handlers. Hyperpure has since addressed these issues as part of their commitment to food safety standards.
