Still, the exponential growth being witnessed in the destination wedding industry is quite astonishing, and it clearly indicates the level of popularity that it has achieved. The global market size has grown exponentially in recent few years and is expected to grow from $36.22 billion in 2024 to around $47.69 billion in 2025 at a 31.7 per cent CAGR.
And India, known for its extravagant wedding ceremonies, is one of the most popular destinations for both Indian and foreign weddings. According to research from IBEF, India hosts over 10 million weddings every year and is also a popular destination for weddings. No wonder the country has plenty of room for new wedding planners to flourish.

Behind The Scene: Journey so far
Vaibhav Sadhwani and Avish Thakurgota founded Behind The Scene (BTS), alongside business partners Rohit Mehta and Nikhil Vaya. The idea was to provide a personalised and innovative experience to the consumers who wished for a memorable destination wedding.
Being based in Udaipur, the heart of India’s destination wedding industry, BTS has been at the forefront of crafting bespoke, unforgettable weddings since 2013.
This wedding planner contributes significantly to the wedding industry by providing specialised services that address a wide range of client needs. The venture provides couples with high-end and bespoke experiences.
Speaking to SME Futures, Vaibhav Sadhwani, Co-founder, Behind The Scene Weddings – Destination Wedding consultants, says that the idea of establishing this business originated from personal experiences and a fascination with weddings and celebrations. And the booming market of destination weddings presented a great opportunity to launch their business.
“I have always been fascinated by grand celebrations and the emotions attached to weddings. The idea of creating unforgettable experiences for couples inspired me to venture into wedding planning. Seeing how destination weddings were becoming a trend, we wanted to bring innovation and seamless execution to this space,” he says.
It’s a team effort
BTS has a dedicated team of 20+ professionals, along with an extensive network of trusted vendors, designers, and coordinators, ensuring the flawless execution of every wedding. The team pays minute attention to every department and each detail for an unforgettable experience.
“It’s a well-coordinated effort involving hospitality, decor, entertainment, F&B, logistics, and tech integration. Strong partnerships and seamless communication with vendors ensure a smooth flow, making every wedding a flawless experience,” Vaibhav asserts.
According to him, setting up a wedding business was not an easy feat. “The initial phase was challenging—building trust, forming vendor networks, and handling high-pressure events. But our commitment to delivering exceptional weddings helped us to establish a strong foothold,” he reminisces.
Growth over the years
BTS is a bootstrapped venture, says Sadhwani proudly.
Talking about the company’s growth, Sadhwani says that he began BTS with a modest investment. “The venture began with a modest investment, focusing on curating quality experiences. As of now, we are bootstrapped and growing organically. Over the years, the business has grown significantly with a strong pipeline of high-end weddings. And now, BTS is aiming towards a much brighter future for the business. We are open to strategic collaborations and investments that align with our vision of redefining luxury weddings. This will enable the expansion of Behind the Scene,” he says.
This year, BTS is focusing on expanding into international destination weddings, introducing tech-driven planning solutions, and curating ultra-personalised wedding experiences that blend culture with contemporary aesthetics. “I must say that the response that we are receiving is overwhelming,” he enthuses.
Trends in the sector
By delivering exceptional weddings, they have been able to establish a strong foothold in the market.
Over the years, the demand for destination weddings has skyrocketed, with couples prioritising unique locations and curated experiences.
Sadhwani says, “More couples are choosing unique destinations for their big day. With evolving luxury experiences, offbeat locations, and immersive cultural weddings, the industry is set for exponential growth. We have observed steady growth in this segment.”
“Nowadays, people wish to make their moments special in every aspect, and destination weddings are a perfect choice. This gives destination wedding planners the perfect opportunity to showcase their skills,” he adds.
Also, sustainability is strongly influencing wedding industry trends. Sadhwani says, “Sustainability is big—eco-friendly decor, local artisanal elements, and intimate wedding experiences are in demand. Additionally, tech-driven guest experiences, live streaming, and AI-powered planning tools are reshaping the industry.”
According to him, cultural weddings are becoming experiential tourism hotspots. International guests are keen on exploring local traditions, cuisines, and music, turning weddings into immersive travel experiences. “This trend will only grow stronger,” Sadhwani concludes on a positive note.
