Semiconductors, often called microchips or integrated circuits, are an important component of electronic systems. You can’t imagine using any of your technological devices, let alone missiles, drones, or ships, without them. These tiny semiconductor chips are found in practically every electronic device. In a nutshell, they are modern electronic brains.
Now, India is not a key manufacturer of semiconductors. But, it has kickstarted its journey to become one. Recently India modified the programme for the development of semiconductors and display manufacturing ecosystem, with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. Can India, however, lead its semiconductor mission to become a global manufacturer? And what is the demand landscape here?
To answer these questions Satya Gupta, CEO of EPIC Foundation discussed various facets of India’s semiconductor mission with SME Futures.
