Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh endorsed the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) at the Walmart Growth Summit, emphasising its role in democratising the digital commerce landscape in India. During his address, he highlighted the ONDC as a network, offering support to non-digitised individuals and promoting inclusivity in the e-commerce process.
Sanjiv drew parallels between ONDC and the SMTP protocol, stressing the network’s ability to facilitate digital commerce for all without bias. He invited companies like Flipkart to leverage the ONDC network voluntarily, particularly in Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4 cities where providing services can be challenging for larger corporations.
The Joint Secretary also expressed his expectation that platforms like Flipkart and ONDC would surpass six sigma in fulfillment levels, underscoring the importance of providing high-quality services to the Indian population. He emphasised that the delivery of excellent services would be the essential factor in this competitive landscape.
“ONDC is a network which can be used by anybody. And we have been inviting Flipkart also to take help of this network especially for Tier 2, Tier 3, even Tier 4 cities, where at times, it is very challenging for big companies to provide the services. They can have a division which can use, ONDC to look after the needs of sellers who are mostly MSMEs as well as rural buyers,” he said.
Sanjiv’s statements reaffirmed the significance of ONDC as a democratic and inclusive platform for digital commerce, showcasing its potential to empower MSMEs and cater to rural buyers in India.
