According to news reports, Mukesh Ambani led Reliance industries has entered the grocery delivery market with its new hyperlocal Kirana stores-led retail e-marketplace, Jio Mart.
Currently, Jio Mart is operating in Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Thane. It is reported that the company is likely to scale its operations to a national level soon.
The foray into the e-marketplace had been hinted by Reliance industries chairman last year. Then again in August 2019, at the Reliance’s 42 annual meet. They had announced that they plan to connect three crore offline retailers to more than 20 crore households with its latest venture.
As per reports, the platform is likely to host a catalogue of 50 thousand grocery products. It will also provide free home delivery against no minimum order value. The company also assures that it will offer no questions asked return, and express delivery. In fact, Reliance has invited its telecom service Jio’s users to register for Jio Mart and avail preliminary discounts as well.
With Reliance foraying into the online grocery delivery business, the competition has become more difficult for unicorns like BigBasket and Grofers.
