NICDC and BIADA partner to launch integrated manufacturing cluster in Gaya, Bihar

Driving industrial growth and cultural heritage, IMC Gaya sets Bihar on a transformative path in India’s industrial landscape

In a significant move towards advancing Bihar’s industrial development, the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) signed two key agreements—State Support Agreement (SSA) and Shareholder Agreement (SHA)—for establishing an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya. This project is a strategic node under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), aimed at bolstering India’s industrial ecosystem while celebrating the heritage of Gaya.

Boost to ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi’ vision

With the motto of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” (development alongside heritage), this initiative aligns with the government’s vision for inclusive growth. The cluster, covering 1,670 acres with an estimated project cost of INR 1,339 crore, will attract sectors ranging from agri-food processing and leather goods to engineering and medical equipment manufacturing. With an investment potential of INR 16,524 crore, IMC Gaya is expected to create over 109,000 jobs, providing an economic lift to local communities.

Strategic connectivity and infrastructure

Strategically located, IMC Gaya benefits from proximity to major transportation networks, including NH-19 and NH-22, as well as key rail connections like Gaya Junction and the planned New Paharpur Railway Station. Air connectivity is assured with Gaya International Airport (30 km) nearby, and road accessibility will be strengthened through three proposed greenfield projects. The robust infrastructure will enable smooth logistical operations, making IMC Gaya an appealing base for national and international businesses alike.

Planned facilities to support industry growth

IMC Gaya will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including a 29.89 km internal road network, high-capacity power substations, and a reliable water supply system. Additionally, the cluster will feature environmentally friendly facilities, such as sewage and water treatment plants and waste management systems. Other support amenities, such as a skill development center, commercial space, and administrative offices, will help cater to industry and workforce needs.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Bihar’s top officials, signaling a new chapter in Bihar’s industrial journey. This ambitious cluster is set to drive economic growth, foster employment, and establish Bihar as a prominent industrial hub in Eastern India, advancing the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
