As per news reports, the government is in plans to order taxi aggregators such as Uber and Ola to convert 40% of their fleet of cars to electric cars by April 2026.
In an exclusive meeting held on May 28, Niti Aayog officials and the ministries of road, power, transport, renewable energy and steel, heavy industries and trade suggested the need for switching to electric vehicles.
It is reported that during government meetings late last month regarding the new rules for e-mobility decisions were taken on the electrification. Cab-hailing giants Ola and Uber will have to start converting their fleet to electric cars from next year to achieve 2.5% electrification by 2021, 5% by 2022, 10% by 2023, before hiking it to 40% by April 2026.
In fact, during the meeting, the officials also recommended that all new cars which will be sold for commercial use, will have to be electric vehicles from April 2026.
