Mr. Vijay Kalantri, 65, is an eminent and versatile personality from India. As a first generation entrepreneur he has made an outstanding contribution to wide ranging areas such as Industrial & Trade Promotion, Infrastructure Development, Development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Sector, Financial Services and Globalisation of Indian Business. Indeed, these are the subjects always at his heart and he has always taken up their cause not only with the Government of India and State Governments but also with the International Organisations like World Trade Organisation (WTO), UN International Labour Organisation (ILO), UNIDO-India Industries Council and others.
Mr. Kalantri received formal education in the fields of Commerce and Textiles and ventured into Textiles, Leasing Finance and Infrastructure Development by setting up Balaji Group of Industries. Presently he is Chairman of Dighi Port Ltd. Which has set up Maharashtra State’s first private sector Port and Port based Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The Port has recently become operational and will expand and diversify its operations in the near future. Dighi Port has already become a Shipping and Logistics Hub for a number of MNCs as well as for Large Industrial Houses in the country.
Mr. Kalantri is the President of All India Association of Industries (AIAI), Indian Council of Foreign Trade and Indo-Polish Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is also Vice Chairman of World Trade Centre (WTC), Mumbai and a member of the Board of Directors of World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), New York. He serves as a member of various committees of Reserve Bank of India such as standing committee of Small Scale Industries, Exchange Control Committee, All India Export Advisory Committee and also as a member of Steel Consumer Council, Bombay Stock Exchange Derivatives Council Board, Advisory Board of Corporate Governance Committee of SEBI and Central Council of Customs and Excise. He is on the national advisory board of Small Industries Development Bank of India and Employees State Insurance Corporation. He served as director of many institutions such as the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited, Dena Bank and Canara Bank.
As President of All India Association of Industries (AIAI), Mr. Kalantri has represented a number of issues of the Indian Industries to the Governments and suggested solutions to deal with such issues. At the World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai as its Vice-Chairman he has made the Centre a vibrant and premier Trade Promotion Organisation in the country for promotion of trade and investment.
WTC Mumbai and AIAI under the leadership of Mr. Vijay Kalantri have jointly undertaken several unique growth initiatives that have today become well-known global brands like Global Economic Summits (GES), ITM Expos to mention a few.
Mr. Kalantri as Board Director of the WTCs Association (WTCA) has significantly contributed to the deliberations of this prestigious international organization and its various Committees of which he is a Member. As WTCA Regional Coordinator for South Asia, he has been responsible for promotion and growth of WTCs movement in India, South Asia as well as Africa and Middle East Regions.. This has indeed been achieved with great success.
Mr. Vijay Kalantri is also connected with and takes keen interest in the other areas such as Social Welfare, Politics as well as Bollywood Entertainment. He has been honoured with various prestigious awards by Institutions and Organisations representing industry, government bodies and socio-economic institutions. He has been conferred the WTC Mumbai Lifetime Achievement Award during GES 2011. He is recipient of “Commander Cross of the Order of Merit”, the highest civilian award by the Government of Poland and has been conferred the “Pushkin Award” by the Russian President Hon’ble Mr. Vladimir Putin.
