A new study commissioned by Amadeus, in collaboration with Opinium Research, reveals that nearly half of Indian tech professionals expect to pivot their career trajectories multiple times to keep up with the fast-evolving technology landscape. The report finds that 49 per cent of respondents believe they will need to shift careers at least three times, while 53 per cent plan to switch jobs within the next five years.
The findings underscore a workforce increasingly driven by innovation, inclusivity, and career growth opportunities. 63 per cent of tech professionals prioritise innovation when choosing an employer, and 25 per cent are willing to accept a pay cut to work for brands known for industry leadership and creativity.
Flexibility and career growth at the forefront
The study highlights that flexible work arrangements are a significant factor for today’s tech workforce. Nearly 48 per cent of respondents value flexible options, such as remote work and hybrid models, as essential when selecting a job. Similarly, 51 per cent prioritise structured career development paths, seeking workplaces that balance growth opportunities with flexibility.
Despite high satisfaction with some employer initiatives—70 per cent commend mental health support, and 68 per cent appreciate work-life balance efforts—many professionals are still looking for change. This indicates that while wellness programs are valued, companies must also focus on fostering innovation and inclusivity to attract and retain talent.
Inclusivity is key to talent retention
Equitable workplaces are now a critical consideration for tech professionals, with 91 per cent of respondents emphasising their importance. Companies that invest in inclusivity are seen as more attractive, fostering environments that drive innovation and collaboration.
“Inclusive workplaces are no longer just a moral imperative; they are a business strategy,” the report notes, highlighting the growing expectation for companies to create diverse and equitable environments.
Shift in workforce expectations
The study also reveals a broader shift in workforce priorities. Professionals are increasingly favoring purpose-driven roles over financial incentives. Innovation leads the list of priorities for 63 per cent of respondents, and 1 in 4 tech professionals are open to taking a pay cut for opportunities at companies that value creativity and forward-thinking strategies.
Mani Ganeshan, Senior Vice President at Amadeus Labs India, commented on the findings, “The days when salary alone could attract talent are over. Tech professionals today seek purpose, continuous learning, and the ability to innovate. Companies that foster these values will not only retain talent but also lead the industry’s next evolution.”
