India’s ‘perfume capital’ Kannauj has around 350 small, medium and large perfumeries supporting almost 50,000 families. Before India had liberalized its import market, perfumes were among the most popular buys for Indians travelling abroad. Today, the market has a glut of foreign & Indian brands that is expected to grow further. India’s oldest perfume business centre, with its traditional ways and organic ingredients, is fighting a losing battle against branded lifestyle products.
