With the vision to position Gujarat as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and Semiconductor production, the state took a pioneering step by introducing distinct policies for Electronics Manufacturing (2022-28) and Semiconductor Manufacturing (2022-27) – the first state to do so in India, aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission.
These policies have been meticulously crafted to facilitate and promote manufacturing activities in Gujarat. Recognising the extensive utilisation of semiconductor chips, especially in defence and telecommunications. The Gujarat Semiconductor policy aims to generate over 200,000 employment opportunities in the coming next 5 years. With Micron Technologies entering India through Gujarat, it has marked it as a significant step in the development of the state.
With a keen investor interest in the region and ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, the Government of Gujarat has organised various Delegation Visits, International Roadshows, and Domestic Roadshows under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. These delegation visits and roadshows have enabled the state to demonstrate its potential and it served as a unique opportunity for industry leaders, and organisations, to deliberate about potential opportunities available in the state.
So far, over 1000 companies have been touched base with through the various International and National roadshows and delegation visits ahead of VGGS 2024. These visits have helped in fostering strategic partnerships that align with the development vision of Gujarat and in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
As an outcome, companies from Japan, South Korea, and Indian-based companies from New Delhi and Bengaluru expressed their keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in the region. These companies have shown their enthusiasm towards the research & development in semiconductor industries, assembly testing, packaging, and the manufacturing of critical components which are valuable for the semiconductor industry along with developing Engineering/technology centers.
Some of the companies met during the International roadshows in this regard were, Mitsui & Co. (Japan), Sharm Corporation (Japan), Avanstrate (Japan), Hosiden (Japan), Simmtech (South Korea). Other companies met during National roadshows include Seoul Semiconductors, V-Guard, LAM Research, Dell Technologies, marvel Technologies, NXP Semiconductors. Followup discussions with various International and National companies are underway to set up additional large-scale projects in Gujarat.
The focused approach of the Gujarat Government towards such strategic sectors as semiconductors and electronics manufacturing will play a significant role in the global realignment of supply chains and raise India’s economic position economically.
