Lockdown 2.0: PM Modi extends world’s biggest lockdown for 19 days

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a further extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a further extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic as the number of people suffering from the disease in India has touched 10,453 and deaths topped 358, according to world-o-meter, as on April 13.

However, Prime Minister also announced that hotspots would be identified and until April 20, every district will be monitored carefully to measure the compliance to lockdown and spread the virus. He further said that the areas which will be successful in reducing hotspots would be allowed relaxation in lockdown after April 20.

In his address, the PM quoted, “we will have to keep an eye on newer hotspots and take stringent measures to curb the spread. In the next few days, you will see more strict actions to contain the damage. Till April 20, there will be a careful survey and evaluation to see how each region has fared in stopping the spread. Those areas that show remarkable improvement in terms of not allowing new hotspots to be created will see some relaxation in lockdown rules after April 20. However, if we see any carelessness or dangers afterwards, these relaxations would be revoked. A detailed list of guidelines on this will be issued by the government soon,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned.

Prime Minister also highlighted that steps are proposed given the economic needs of the poor, who rely on the wages they earn daily basis and that the mitigation of their problems are his priority.

Prime Minister also assured “When the number of cases reaches 10,000, 1500-1600 hospital beds are required. But in India, we have made available as many as 100,000 beds”.

Further in his address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that India has adequate supplies of essential medicines and the central government IS taking measures to ensure the availability of protective gear and critical equipment.

1. To look after the elderly at home, especially those who have a history of ailments, keep them safe

2. To follow lockdown and social distancing rigorously with the usage of homemade masks at all times.

3. To increase immunity by referring to guidelines given by Ayush Ministry

5. To help the poor and the needy with food supplies

6. To show compassion towards employees and do not fire them

7. To give respect to corona warriors like the medical staff, safai karmis, police and guards
